The S&P 500 finished trade at a record on Mon. The S&P 500 gained 1.38% to close at 4,791.19. Mega cap tech stocks played their part in the rally. Apple (AAPL US, +2.3%), Microsoft (MSFT US, +2.32%) and Meta Platforms (FB US, +3.26%), among top performers.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 351.82 pts, or 0.98%, to close at 36,302.38. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.39%. The small cap Russell 2000 climbed 0.89%.


The 10-year Treasury note yield slipped 1.71 basis points (bps) to 1.4756%.


The most actively traded US gold futures (Feb) contracts settled down $2.90, or 0.2%, at US$1,808.80/oz. March silver, which is the most actively traded silver futures, rose 4.9 cents, or 0.2%, to end at US$22.989/oz.


The ICE dollar index (DXY), which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of currencies, rose 0.08% to 96.093.


The front-month Brent and WTI futures closed up $2.46 at US$78.60/bbl and $1.78 at US$75.57/bbl respectively.


European equity markets finished higher on Mon. France's CAC 40 rose 0.76%, the German DAX advanced 0.5%, while the UK FSTE 100 remains shut until Wed. UK financial markets is closed on Tue to observe boxing day.
